LASER FOR TATTOO REMOVAL
Love it. Love it, not.
What you once loved doesn't have to last forever
Did your tattoo seem attractive in your 20's but not so attractive today?
Or is your tattoo a permanent reminder of what was just a temporary feeling?
If so, you are not alone! That change of heart, or feeling of regret is the #1 reason why people seek tattoo removal.
Fortunately, de-inking has progressed from a so-so, time consuming process to a much faster, safe and effective method. Finally that unforgettable tattoo can become forgotten with the most advanced laser tattoo removal technology available in the market-Enlighten ™
Enlighten features extremely short and high power picosecond laser pulses which efficiently and quickly break down the ink particles in tattoo's. Picosecond laser pulses have been shown to remove tattoo's more completely and in fewer treatment sessions than more traditional lasers used in the past.
How Many Treatment Sessions are required?
The total number of treatments vary depending on the composition, depth and the colour of the ink, as well as the size of the tattoo. You should be prepared for multiple treatment sessions, and your provider can give you a better idea of the total number of treatments needed during your consultation and once your treatments begin.
Why are multiple sessions required?
Tattoo ink is deposited deep in the skin. In order to reach all of the ink in the skin, multiple treatment sessions are needed for clearance. Depth, size and colour of the tattoo also impact the number of treatments needed.
Will the tattoo completely disappear?
In many cases, yes. However, it is very important to know that some ink colours are more difficult to clear than others. Consult with your enlighten provider to determine if enlighten is right for you.
Is the procedure painful ?
Patients compare the procedure to a rubber band being snapped against their skin. Topical or local anaesthetics may be available from your provider to minimise discomfort.
Are there any side effects following the treatment?
Most patients experience redness and swelling immediately following the treatment. These side effects are temporary.
Is there any downtime associated with the treatment?
Patients can return to regular activities immediately following the treatment.
Are there any Laser tattoo removal pre-treatment guidelines?
To increase the success of your tattoo removal treatments and minimise side effects, here are a few pre-treatment guidelines:
Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment
No sun-tanning or self-tanners 4 weeks prior to treatment. This includes spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds and general sun exposure
Some medications or supplements may increase your risk of bruising. Your clinician will discuss these medications and supplements with you during your consultation
Avoid treatments that may irritate your skin for 1-2 weeks prior to your treatment, this includes waxing and depilatories
Notify your clinician about any changes to your health or medications since your last treatment
If you have a history of herpes or cold sores, you may require an anti-viral prescription prior to your laser tattoo removal treatment
After care guidelines for laser tattoo removal.
Here are a few aftercare guidelines that will help protect your skin after your tattoo removal treatment.
Avoid sun exposure for 2 – 4 weeks after your treatment and always apply a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen before going outside
Refrain from using any products that might irritate the skin, this includes products that contain retinol, tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids and astringents. Wait until the skin has fully healed and all crusting has resolved before applying additional products to the skin.
